Valley of the Winds scoping report submitted
A scoping report for the 800 megawatt Valley of the Winds project has been submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE), an important milestone for the renewable energy development.
The report outlines key features of the project, approaches to community engagement as well as a preliminary environmental impact assessment. The report is consistent with the NSW Wind Energy Framework as well as other planning requirements.
The report has been published on the Department’s Major Projects Page.
All major wind farm developments are assessed as State Significant Developments under Part 4 of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. The lodging of the scoping report is an important first stage in this assessment process.
The Department will closely review the scoping report and then issue the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). The SEARs sets out issues that must be addressed in an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the project.
We have also referred the project to the Federal Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment to help explore potential national environmental impacts, as required by the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
